Psalm 27, Isaiah 42:1-7, John 12:1-11

A royal declaration

The setting for Psalm 27 may well be a royal event such as the anniversary of a coronation. God’s covenant with David was eternal but it was renewed in the coronation of every new monarch. Annually the king would restate his coronation commitments, and he would not depart for war without first consulting with God. Psalm 27 is both a declaration of confidence in God and a prayer for divine aid. The psalmist may be a king, but he is also humbly aware of his great need. May the confident declarations of this psalm be your prayer today.
