The cost of discipleship

The three dialogues in today’s Gospel suggest that hardship is a necessary consequence of following Christ. Do I qualify? Has being a Christian cost me? Have I been subjected to persecution? Prejudice? Discrimination? If not, I have to ask the question: have I really followed Jesus? If there hasn’t been a cost for me, is that due to good fortune, or to fear having deflected me from my Christian calling? If so, I am in good company - ask St Peter! Like him, may I know the Lord’s forgiveness and resolve, with his help, to be more courageous.
