The Family of Faith

The beginning of today’s gospel seems very unlikely. Did Jesus really come to break up families? Of course not, but family loyalties and ties can become an excuse for avoiding a total commitment to Jesus. We are fortunate to live in a society where we are free to be Christians, where the worst that can happen to us is mockery or disagreement.

Let’s pray today for those who live in societies where they may be persecuted for their faith, where the danger may be not only to them but to their families. May God give them courage and strength.
