Local prophets

When I think of saints and prophets I think first of great people from far-away places. It’s easy to recognize them, but what about those in our own community? They do exist, and when I stop to think, I have met many in my lifetime. Little people doing immense good very quietly, Difficult, prophetic figures, speaking uncomfortable truths I might prefer not to hear. Patient sufferers, bearing great pain, and offering that pain as prayer.

Lord, give us grace to recognize, support and celebrate our local prophets and saints.
