‘Do not be afraid’

The tragic thing about this gospel story is the reaction of the townspeople. They were afraid. Afraid of something beyond their understanding, and perhaps fearing the loss of their livelihood. Their fear stopped them welcoming Jesus, despite his having healed the demoniac. How often Jesus told his followers not to be afraid, yet still, speaking for myself anyway, how often I let fear rule me. Only through prayer, and by the grace of God can we begin to live a life free from fear.
