Amos 2:6-10,13-16, Ps.50, Matthew 8:18-22

Prevarication

At first glance this gospel seems very harsh – surely the desire to bury one’s father must be both natural and good. Possibly however the father was not yet dead, nor even in imminent danger of death! Was this really just an excuse to put off following Jesus till a more convenient time? I have been guilty of this I know, possibly many of us have. Perhaps this is something to look at in prayer today.
