St Mark the Evangelist

1 Peter 5:5-14; Ps 89; Mark 16:15-20

Example for a disciple

The words, “You will have to suffer only for a little while,” are a helpful key for understanding Mark the Evangelist. Jesus, for Mark, is a suffering Messiah, and so, as his disciples, we too will have to suffer the trials of faith and temptation. But as Messiah, Jesus is also the one who accompanies us in our journeys from the Galilee beginnings of faith to the empty tomb moments inviting complete faith (and back again!) throughout my life.
