New Eve Tapestry – Notre Dame de France, London

June Cover

JUNE EDITION - This month we celebrate the recent beatification of Pope John-Paul II, and reflect that we live in an extraordinary age of saints and martyrs. The Editor then gives us a personal tour of a French church in the middle of London's theatre district. The beautiful tapestry shown here being one of its treasures.

You will also find many other interesting articles from authors such as  Fr John Kelly who continues his reflections on contemplation,  Elizabeth Isichei who introduces us to A J Jacobs who tries his hand at following the Bible as a Jew. Fr Merv Duffy explains THAT word in the Creed, "Consubstantial". Still on a Biblical note, Joe McHugh continues his articles on the Gospel of Matthew.

Two articles on the effects of pornography help to explain the effects that regular exposure to pornography can have on our normal way of acting and that it can seriously harm healthy relationships.

On a completely different note, Michael Pender, a geo-technical engineer shares his experience of working with the people of Christchurch during the time of the devastating quakes.

New appointments are celebrated, namely Fr Paul Donoghue, recently named as the new Bishop of Rarotonga, and Sister Etevise Ioane smsm who was elected Provincial Superior of the Province of the South Pacific from 1 January 2011. You will also find our regular daily reflections and saints of the month. We hope that you enjoy reading this month's Marist Messenger
