Feast of the Visitation

Zephaniah 3:14-18;
Canticle
Isaiah 12:2-6;
Luke 1:39-56

Vatican II declared: “Mary embarked at the Annunciation on a pilgrimage of faith” (LG 58). Today’s feast, in a way, symbolizes this: the more common of two routes was nearly a 200km, 8-10 day arduous trek! Mary, striding out to assist Elizabeth, no doubt took time to ponder in her heart the significance of God as Emmanuel. Before we leave Eastertide, let’s also take great confidence and courage for own journeys, from the great reality of ‘God with us.’
