Big-picture joy

Jesus is always drawing his disciples out of themselves and their way of thinking. He draws them up into himself and his way of thinking and loving. They loved Jesus in a way that somehow veiled the bigger picture of his life. They wanted him and his life for themselves. His suffering and Resurrection were strange events that they could not understand simply because their love was too self-centred. This sounds all so human. Jesus says we will all suffer if we love him. Lord, help my suffering turn to joy.
