Give them food yourselves

The disciples want to solve the hungry crowd problem by sending them away from Jesus. He responds with a startling command: “You give them something to eat.” We pray with this story in our world where physical and spiritual hunger abound. Jesus calls us to reach out and give what we can. He took … blessed … broke … gave. “Gave” is in a form that signifies continuous action. How we can be part of ‘meal-sharing’ groups (literal meaning of ‘sit down in groups’) to feed our sisters and brothers both physically and spiritually.
