Relationship

Lent is a time to let go of any residual notion that our brownie points really matter. We can’t work hard and earn our way into heaven. The Pharisee informs God how good he is, there is no hint of a living relationship with God. It is the tax collector who is consumed with being in relationship with God. This relationship so charged with gratitude that he can’t even raise his eyes but gestures with his heart. Often on a dark starry night I gaze at the splendour of our night sky, marvelling that despite our best and worst efforts we are in relationship with a God who loves us no matter what.
