God at work in the mess

As Zechariah makes the beautiful Benedictus prophecy and looks at his newborn son the “Prophet of the Most High” to prepare a way for the Lord, he was not aware of just how different his son would be. John would not follow him into the temple as a priest, but become a wild prophet in the desert. With faith we ponder God’s mysterious ways and see God’s creativity working through what may look like chaotic and unexpected life events. God seems to be at home in the messy and unusual as Jesus’ birth indicates. Are we?
