An advent recipe

This must have been a very striking situation when tax collectors and prostitutes were accepting Jesus and chief priests and religious leaders were not. What was the resistance to believing in Jesus? ‘Leaders’ would now be invited to become ‘followers’; ‘talking’ about the kingdom of God would now be changed to become ‘living’ the kingdom of God. This was a big challenge. The reading from Zephaniah gives some Advent direction: let go of shame for past misdeeds, let go of pride and ‘strutting around’, and become a ‘humble and lowly people doing no wrong and telling no lies’. A good recipe for Advent.
