Waiting for someone else?

John the Baptist is an adult, in prison, distressed. Life was not working out as he thought it would. He is asking many questions. The prophets shared what it would be like when the messiah eventually arrives: blind see, deaf hear, dead are raised, lepers cleansed, the poor receive and experience ‘good news’ for their lives. Do we recognise what has been started in Jesus and continues in the church? Do we consider ourselves as part of his mission and life today? Or are we discouraged and ‘waiting for someone else’; a different messiah, a contemporary ‘god’ to save me-us?
