Death of a Marist

Fr Tito Muavesi SM

Born 17 July 1977

Professed 28 December 2001

Ordained 9 December 2006

Died 10 October 2022, Fiji

Fr Tito Muavesi SM of Fiji was born on the 17th July 1977. He died unexpectedly on the afternoon of the 10th of October 2022. He was only 45 and had been a Marist for 21 years and 16 years as a priest.

Tito began his formation in 1999 in Marist College and the Pacific Regional Seminary. He then entered the Novitiate in Tutu and was professed on the 28th of December 2001. He continued his formation and studies and was ordained a priest on the 9th of December 2006.

Tito was a sociable, outgoing man and a talented musician. He played the drums with great enthusiasm. He loved his sport, and played both rugby and football. He was known as a conscientious and organised person. Perhaps for these qualities he was chosen to study Canon Law. He first worked in the Paramatta Tribunal in Australia and then went on to study Canon Law in Rome.

Upon his return he was appointed to various parishes in Fiji, eventually becoming the Parish Priest of  Holy Cross Parish, Wairiki on Taveuni Island in Fiji. He also was given the responsibility of  being the Dean of the parishes of the eastern side of Suva.

Tito collapsed and died  while he was accompanying the youth of the parish on a weekend of the Fiji Day national holiday. May he rest in peace.
