Using gifts

This parable can appear quite harsh. It came at a time when the reign of God seemed near and so it appears there was a certain tenseness. How do we ready ourselves today for the end? In life we see some people who take what they have and make the most of opportunities, whereas others are inclined to be trapped by difficulties. We all have gifts. Do I recognise what I have and develop and use these gifts for others, or do I hold tight just in case I make a mistake and get it wrong?
