The Call

In this calling of “the Twelve” there is a careful order or hierarchy. Firstly, Jesus is on the mountain all night communing with God his Father. Then the Twelve are named from Peter to Judas. With them Jesus descends to a plateau where are gathered a “great crowd” firstly from the Jewish parts and then the outer pagan parts (Tyre and Sidon). They have come to “hear him” and “be cured”. Further out still were those ‘tormented by unclean spirits’. Everyone is trying to touch him and his power “cured them all”. Here is Christ, his church and mission.
