Mother hen

Jerusalem is where Jesus’ destiny lies. He will not be convinced to leave there by the threat of murder by Herod. Many prophets have already been killed in that city. Jesus laments as one more of them, “Jerusalem, Jerusalem…” It is tragic more than condemnatory. Bishop N.T. Wright tells how a mother hen caught in a farmyard fire will gather her chicks under her wings, taking the flames on herself unto death, to save them. So too is Jesus’ desire, his destiny and love.
