ST IGNATIUS OF ANTIOCH

Ephesians 2:1-10; Psalm 100:1-5; Luke 12:13-21

Silos of grain

Underpinning this parable is the fragility and uncertainty of this earthly life. A healthy response we have heard already – “build up treasure for yourselves in heaven”. But this rich man expects to stay secure for many years thanks to his silos of grain. It is a tempting solution for one who has a great deal. But even he is vulnerable as we see from his sudden death. “Fool!” says our Lord. This warning is as much for an individual as for a community or nation.
