Mary

By good fortune, the sequence of the Gospel concerns Mary on her day, Saturday. An anonymous woman in the crowd, clearly delighted by Jesus’ teaching, compliments both him and his mother at the same time, “Happy the womb that bore you and the breasts you sucked!” Without taking anything away from her words, Jesus adds, “Still happier those who hear the word of God and keep it!” This too, Mary has done perfectly. Moreover, this latter joy is one we can share with Mary if we choose.
