Mary, Mother of Mercy

Ecclesiastes 11:9-12:8; Psalm 90; Luke 9:43-45

Our Lady of Mercy

On the edge of a Napier Primary School veranda was a verse from the first reading: “Remember your Creator in the days of your youth”. It maybe quite a few decades later as we read this but, please God, we still remember and acknowledge the Creator, His only-begotten Son and the Holy Spirit! And we honour Mary on many Saturdays, and today is that day. Traditional devotions still have their place: Thursday: Holy Eucharist; Friday – Passion and Death of our Saviour; Saturday – Mary; and the Sunday climax of the glorious Resurrection of Jesus Christ!

We note that Luke records Jesus as warning the Apostles of the events of Holy Thursday and Good Friday; and also notes “they were afraid to ask him about what he had just said.” May the Mother of Mercy day by day keep us aware of what Jesus teaches
