I will be with you

Today’s reading from Matthew, like yesterday’s, would have been immensely consoling for the early Christians, living as they did in an environment where they could be condemned to death just for professing faith in Jesus. Today, as we face the lesser evils and pain of our lives, Jesus’ words remind us that God knows each one of us personally and intimately. This God who is closer to us than we are to ourselves will remain this close even when our lives seem to be falling apart. If we could only believe this!
