‘Come and See’ at Marist Seminary

Fr Hayden Powick SM exposing the Blessed Sacrament during the Weekend

On the weekend of Palm Sunday, a ‘Come and See’ experience was held at Marist Seminary, Auckland. The purpose of the weekend is to introduce interested young men to the formation community and theological college.

The weekend was postponed from an earlier date due to the shift of the formation house from Hopetoun Street to Vermont Street. Given interruptions from Covid, we were delighted two young men decided to participate. Both men came because of personal invitations.

During the weekend the participants joined the formation community for prayer, meals and activities interspersed with some input at times from seminarians and visiting Marist priests.

This effort is always worthwhile: one of the men has applied to come into Spiritual accompaniment, with a view to entering Marist formation next year. The other young man has only recently left college. He is keen to maintain contact with Marists and the Seminary with a view to discerning a vocation later. You may know  someone who would be happy to be asked to consider a priestly or religious vocation. As many religious and priests can testify, this was what started us on the road to Marist life. We shouldn’t be afraid to invite young people to consider a vocation! Please pray for these men and for an increase in vocations to the priesthood and religious life.
