Sts Peter and Paul, Apostles

Acts 12:1-11; Psalm 34: 2-9; 2 Timothy 4:6-8, 17-18; Matthew 16: 13-19

“Upon this rock”

Holy but flawed men these great apostles are forever associated with the city of Rome. They were martyred there after travelling far from their homeland to preach the Gospel. In Rome both are now commemorated by extraordinary basilicas which elicit awe and wonder from those who enter into them. Awe and wonder inspired by two holy but flawed men. God’s grace at work in ordinary human beings, like you and me, can cause awe and wonder in others. We should pray that this will be the case.
