Love your enemies

Only when we stop and think of the very worst that could happen to someone we love dearly does the enormity of Jesus’ words strike home. Nothing in the Gospel seems more demanding, more impossible than this command of Jesus. It is beyond imagining that such love is possible. Impossible for us, yes. But for God? Perhaps this command tells us as much about God as it does about us. Paradoxically, then, the impossible becomes a sign of hope for us if we place our trust in God alone.
