EASTER OCTAVE

Acts 2:36-41; Psalm 33; John 20:11-18

Called by name

Mary of Magdala is recorded in the Gospels as the first to see the Risen Jesus. She is a close friend of Jesus. In her grief she hears Jesus speak to her, but she does not recognise him, until he says “Mary!” Jesus uses her name to tell her He is alive – she recognises his tone, his emphasis. The special relationship she has had with him is also given new life – “my friend is the Risen Jesus.” Let Jesus speak to you – let him call you by name.
