Putting God first

Jesus fasted for 40 days, a significant number in the Bible. Towards the end he must have been weak with hunger. As God, he had the power to turn the stones into bread. He was tempted to do so. Instead he stated, “Human beings live not on bread alone.” First and foremost Jesus places his faith and trust in Abba, God the Father. Before food, power and folly, Jesus puts God the Father first. Likewise, when we fast, it strengthens our relationship with God.
