Abundance

The first meal in John connects the gifts of earth and people in an experience of eating and drinking at a wedding. Jesus does not intervene in processes of nature. He shares and increases the joy of ordinary people. Wine is a gift of creation and raises awareness of the role of the senses and of joyous feasting for Christian spirituality. The adjective ‘good’ wine means ‘beautiful’ or ‘choice.’ That such wine is kept until last is a symbol of Jesus who is the climax of God’s revelation. What part has joy and celebration in my Christian life?
