Mary, Mother of God (S)

Numbers 6:22-27; Psalm 67; Galatians 4:4-7; Luke 2:16-21

The first to hear

Shepherds were the first to hear of Jesus’ birth. They were afraid. They were at the bottom of the social scale. After reflecting, they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph. Imagine their relief to find the baby lying in a manger in a simple peasant two-room house like theirs. This was really good news. No one would say, “Unclean shepherds – go away.” All whom they told were amazed. Recall when you found Jesus in unexpected circumstances? How did you feel?
