Numbers 24:2-7, 15-17; Psalm 25:4-6, 7-9; Matthew 21:23-27

By whose authority?

Jesus in his humanity shares in God’s authority. He is Lord. He possesses all power in heaven and on earth. St Paul reminds us that he “is far above all rule and authority and dominion for the Father has put all things under his feet.” Jesus shares his authority with parents, lawful civil rulers, the Pope, our bishop and others. Insofar as I share in Christ’s authority do I act justly? Insofar as I am under authority am I obedient?
