Isaiah 53:10-11; Psalm 33;
Hebrews 4:14-16; Mark: 10:35-45

How dare they!

We are nearing the end of the Church’s year and the Isaiah reading prompts us to remember the suffering required of God’s servant for our salvation. That suffering is graphically illustrated in the inability of the apostles to understand that they too were called to serve. These were the ones specially chosen and closest to Jesus, yet they couldn’t grasp his message. How painful that must have been for Jesus. The ten were indignant with James and John only because they, too, wanted high ranking. What reward am I looking for?
