Take nothing for the journey

As we ponder today's Gospel are we able to put ourselves in the shoes of the apostles and experience this commission of Jesus? This little section of Luke is like an instruction manual for being an apostle. As we journey, the manual says, we are to take nothing – no money, no food, no gifts – just ourselves, as we are. Jesus challenges us to go with empty hands and open hearts, so we can really pay attention to whomever we meet. Healing often happens without words – the Kingdom of God is within us. Make time today to notice a fellow traveller and ‘be with’ this person.
