Joshua 24:1-13; Psalm 136; Matthew 19:3-12

To test him

It can be easy to become frustrated with the Pharisees as they are always aiming to catch Jesus out or to find fault in him and sadly, never meeting him. There isn’t a Pharisee within us, or is there? Lurking beneath our expectations there may be an unwillingness to receive Jesus. Encountering Jesus changes everything. To realise that we are with him as he is with us, means a different quality of living. Perhaps the letting go of testing God is one of the ways we express most clearly our trust in and love of God.
