Embracing the family of God

Honouring parents is a commandment. Jesus is not denying family responsibilities. He provided for his mother’s security from the cross (Jn 19:25-26). Mary and other family were in the upper room at Pentecost (Acts 1:14). Jesus uses the arrival of his family to teach that in God’s eyes we are all family. The community of believers was not to fracture into tribal or family factions, but to treat everyone as brother, sister, father, mother, whanau. Talk with God about barriers, cultural patterns, perceptions or fears that stop you living as family with someone different from you?
