St Thomas, Apostle (F)

Ephesians 2:19-22, Psalm 117, John 20:24-29

On the shoulders of apostles

Jesus is the foundation of our faith whakapapa (= genealogy). We stand on the shoulders of apostles in the family of God. The Holy Spirit’s love binds us together and allows others to ‘see’ God. Art works pre-dispose us to believe that Thomas stuck his finger into Jesus’ wounds, but scripture focusses on ‘seeing.’ Thomas wants to ‘see’ for himself. On ‘seeing,’ he proclaims, “My Lord and My God.” When we search and question God meets us. We pray with Thomas to ‘see’ and encounter God’s transforming love today.
