You can be too sure

The scribes were sure they knew what the Messiah would be like and what he would do. Jesus challenges their belief by suggesting the hoped for one will be not just the son of David, but someone David himself will call ‘Lord.’ God often surprises those who think they understand by upping the ante to a level that human intelligence struggles to grasp. Sometimes a little knowledge proves to be an obstacle to a fuller understanding. The ordinary people who did not have it all sussed already seemed delighted. While human expertise is a good thing, it must be accompanied by humility and openness of heart. Open my heart, Lord.
