On sitting ready

The miracle of the loaves and fishes is the classic story of Jesus’ desire to feed us. In the face of his disciples’ recommendation that he send away the five thousand who were gathered, to find their own food, Jesus insists that he will provide for them. “Make the people sit down,” he says. And the loaves were given out to those who were sitting, ready. And the fish, as much as they wanted. Lord, help me to just sit and be ready to receive from the abundance of your gifting.
