Truly free

In today’s gospel Jesus speaks to some Jews who believe in him. But they have their own understanding of him, of truth, of freedom. To persist in being attached to my own judgment is to resist God’s light. To live in truth is to be open to God’s ways, honestly seeking what is true. Growth in truth comes gradually as I modify my ideas. Being a slave of a king, as in today’s first reading, differs greatly from being a slave to my own thinking. May the Holy Spirit help me to recognise and grasp truth.
