Creatures comfort

Many of us have a pet dog that is our constant companion. Dogs are sensitive, and show affection in return for kindness. They can keep us connected to life - and to God. For someone in the situation of the poor man Lazarus, dogs might have been a comfort. Today’s parable reminds us that God is constantly reaching out to us in so many ways: through prophets, through circumstances, through life’s ups and downs and, yes, through creatures. May the Spirit open our eyes to recognise some aspect of God’s hand in every creature.
