1 John 4:19-5:4; Psalm 72; Luke 4:14-22

He unrolled the scroll

The Jewish Scriptures – what Christians now call the Old Testament – were very important to Jesus. We can tell this from the way he easily found the verses he wanted in the scroll of the prophet Isaiah. These Scriptures shaped and formed him. Not only had he reflected and meditated on them but he applied them intimately to himself. Here is a model for us to follow. We too should be People of the Word, both the Old Testament and, particularly, the New Testament. We are praying like Jesus when we reflect and meditate on the Word of God.
