Preparation for Mission

Between the birth of Jesus and his public ministry lies a great silence. Matthew only mentions Jesus’ preparation with John the Baptist and in the desert. Luke adds two stories about the young Jesus’ visit to Jerusalem. But that is very little to know about the first thirty years of Jesus’ life. Yet this silence speaks volumes. It speaks of Jesus’ patient learning from others close to God and humbly listening to their wisdom about God. Do we prepare ourselves in this way to be his disciples? Do we try to listen to and learn from those in our lives who are close to God?
