Mary, Mother of God (S)

Numbers 6:22-27; Psalm 67; Galatians 4:4-7; Luke 2:16-21

A new year begins!

And a phrase from the Gospel reading of today leaps out at us as a wonderful New Year’s resolution for each of us. A phrase that helps us understand how Mary learnt to co-operate whole-heartedly with God’s will; co-operation so profound, from the Annunciation onwards, it leads us to honour Mary as the Mother of God: “Mary treasured all these words and pondered them in her heart”. Let us resolve this year to be like Mary and daily ponder God’s words in our hearts.
