Our Lady of Guadalupe (OM)

Ecclesiasticus 48:1-4, 9-12; Psalm 80;
Matthew 17:10-13

Risking to tell the truth

“They did to him whatever they pleased…the Son of Man is about to suffer at their hands”. We can hear the pain and anger in Jesus’ words as he remembers the death of his cousin John and foretells his own suffering and death. Today many thousands of people are tortured and killed as Jesus and John were, because they have denounced injustice and oppression.

Our Lady of Guadalupe, whose feast we celebrate today, appeared to Juan Diego, representative of an oppressed people, and spoke to him with great tenderness and compassion. May she intercede for the oppressed of our world and for all those who have the courage to denounce the oppressors.
