The Christian challenge

Luke’s reading makes it clear it is no easy task to follow Jesus. How did St Jerome (347-420) follow Jesus? He lived simply, the last 30 years of his life in a monastery in Bethlehem. He cared for the spiritual well-being of Christians by translating the bible from Greek into Latin, among many other scholarly works. He never once wavered in his calling, though he did have a bad dream in 375 at the age of 28 that stopped him reading pagan literature. He lived simply, cared for others and stayed true to his faith.
