Compassion is what matters

Jesus and the Pharisees do not get on. Jesus confronts and threatens them. The Pharisees are rule-followers and they pride themselves on their ability to follow the many Jewish practices. But Jesus wants more. He wants the Pharisees to have compassion. Jesus heals a man’s hand (a miracle!) and the Pharisees are angry because Jesus healed on the Sabbath, a day of rest. But where is their compassion for the suffering man? Come back tomorrow, say the Pharisees. Don’t you care, asks Jesus?
