Implications

The harsh words in the three readings from Matthew 23 during this week concern one group of specific religious leaders at a particular time. This chapter is not a factual record of Jewish unfaithfulness in general nor about God’s rejection of the people of Israel or their rejection of God. Search out Jesus’ three objections. What are the implications? I must practice what I preach and follow Jesus in lightening the yoke of the Torah; not seek honour from other people; and prefer lower status and service to lording over others.
