Look for what is right

“Seek good and not evil”, says the prophet Amos, “and you will live”. Of course, Amos means eternal life. Jesus emphasises these words of Amos dramatically with his answering the demons’ plea to cast them into the herd of pigs, and the consequent rush of the herd into the sea. Eating the flesh of pigs was forbidden (evil) for the Jewish people. I might wonder what little demons remain in me. Outwardly I may look fine, but inwardly? What needs casting into the sea? Name it!
