Meaning of the Law

I generally think of the Old Testament ‘Law’ as a huge list of regulations that were largely what today would be covered by government and council regulations, along with hygiene directives that were appropriate for the circumstances of the time. (Who would deny the value of hand-washing?) Jesus says instead that the true meaning of the Law is found in treating others as you would like them to treat you. What do I most appreciate about how others treat me? Can I do the same for someone else?
