It’s understandable that Simon Peter gets a bit upset with Jesus’ repeated questioning as to whether or not Simon loves him. But the focus is not so much on the word “love” as on “you” - as in, this is Simon Peter’s personal commitment to Jesus, no one else’s. And being that committed to Jesus has very significant implications for Simon Peter and for what will follow in his life. We, too, have to ask if we have a deep, personal commitment to loving Jesus – not just as a disciple but in the very depths of our personal being. And if so, are we prepared for what that love may ask of us?
